Georges Road ‘Selection’ Waipara Pinot Gris 2013

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 21-Mar-2014
Hand-picked fruit in two passes, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak to 13.5% alc. and 12 g/L RS, the wine aged 4 months on lees with batonnage. Bright, even straw-yellow colour with a suggestion of blush, pale on rim. This has a very delicate and subtle nose of white and yellow stonefruits, with lifted pears, exotic florals, and nuances of flinty, minerally lees work. Beautifully refined, the nose builds in depth and richness with aeration. Off-dry to medium-dry to taste, refined, piquant flavours of white and yellow stonefruits are harmoniously entwined with pear, tropical fruit and honied elements. The mouthfeel is very smooth and the palate line is composed of very fine, phenolic textures and soft background acidity. The wine is carried to a lingering finish with pure stonefruit flavours. This is a delicate and subtly rich, off-dry Pinot Gris with poise and complex nuances to the stonefruit and pear flavours. Match with poultry and pork dishes over the next 4-5 years. 18.5+/20 Mar 2014 RRP $24.50
