Georges Road ‘Selection’ Waipara Pinot Gris 2011

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 04-May-2012
Bright, pale straw-yellow with green-gold hues, pale on edge. The nose is very fine and tightly bound, a little shy, showing white stonefruit aromas expressed with excellent delicacy and purity. Off-dry, the flavours are very intense and fine, with pure, penetrating stonefruit and subtle pear characters that build with weight and depth. Excellent acidity lends liveliness and palate drive and the palate is very refined in mouthfeel. Savoury yellow fruit nuances emerge in the glass and are interwoven with pear, stonefruit and floral notes on a very long finish. This is a beautifully pure and refined Pinot Gris possessing excellent delicacy. Match with Thai, Vietnamese or Japanese dishes over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Georges Road' vineyard, hand-picked and WBP, indigenous yeast fermented to in seasoned French oak to 14.0% alc. and 9.3 g/L rs, the wine spending 4 months on lees. 18.5+/20 May 2012 RRP $24.50 Brilliant straw-yellow colour with pale green hues, pale on rim. The bouquet is very finely presented with intense and pure aromas of mineral-infused pears. Dryish to taste, this has bight, lively and subtly luscious flavours of white florals and pears, along with delicate spice notes. The expression is lifted and enlivened by racy balancing acidity which provides excellent drive and line. The fruit succulence is a feature, and this is enhanced by smooth textures. The wine finishes with real length, with richness and a little alcohol warmth showing. This is a very fine-grained and lively Pinot Gris with the richness to match most Asian cuisine over the next 3-5 years. Fruit from the ‘Georges Road' vineyard, hand-picked, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned French oak barrels to 14.0% alc. and 9.3 g/L rs. The wine was aged on lees 4 months with occasional stirring. 18.5/20 Feb 2012 RRP $24.50
