Georges Road ‘Cuvee 43’ Waipara Syrah 2016

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-Jul-2018
Full, even, dark, deep ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the edge with a hint of garnet. The nose is elegantly proportioned with well-concentrated and densely packed aromas of ripe black plums and blackberries, along with an integrated amalgam of liquorice, black herbs, spice and tar, and nutty oak. The aromatics show finesse and harmony. Medium-full bodied, the palate is elegantly concentrated with a heart of interwoven flavours of ripe black plums, blackberries, Middle Eastern spices, liquorice and earth, with nutty oak. The fruit grows in sweetness and lusciousness as the wine flows along a smooth and seamless line with underlying, fine, powdery tannin extraction. The acidity is soft and harmonious, supporting the textures, and the wine carries to a rich, firmly concentrated finish. This is an elegantly proportion, well-concentrated, ripe Syrah with black plum, spices and earthy flavours with nutty oak on a seamless palate. Match with slow-cooked game meat over the next 6-8+ years. A barrel selection wine. Hand-picked MS clone Syrah fruit from the ‘Georges Road’ vineyard, destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.2% alc., the wine on skins 22-26 days and aged 19 months in 33% new French oak barriques. 250 cases made. 18.5+/20 Jul 2018 RRP $45.00
