Georges Road ‘Block Three’ Waipara Riesling 2013

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 21-Mar-2014
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with slight lemon hues, lighter on rim. The bouquet is very fine-featured with intense lime and lemon aromas, along with delicate flinty lees and mouthwatering wet-stone mineral nuances, expressed with purity and great focus. Off-dry to medium-dry in taste, rich white and yellow florals, lime fruit and honeysuckle flavours are lifted by exotic jasmine and citrus zest nuances. The palate flows very smoothly with a suggestion of unctuousness at the core, and fresh, lacy, ripe acidity provides excellent tension and freshness. A very fine thread of phenolics guides the flavours to a very long and sustained, lively finish. This is a very fine, pure and focussed dryish Riesling with subtle exotic florals and richness. Serve as an aperitif and with fine Asian fare over the next 4-5+ years. Hand-picked fruit in two passes, WBP and indigenous yeast fermented to 12.2% alc. and 14.9 g/RS with TA 7.9 g/l and pH 3.32. The wine was aged on gross lees with some batonnage. 19.0/20 Mar 2014 RRP $23.50
