Georges Road ‘Block One’ Waipara Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 29-Jul-2014
MS ‘Limmer’ clone fruit, destemmed, given a cold soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 26 days on skins and aged 14 months in 2 y.o. and 3 y.o. French oak barriques. Dark, moderately deep ruby-red colour with slight garnet hues on rim. This has a soft and open voluminous nose of red berry fruits revealing ethereal layers of Middle Eastern spices, oak lift, black and white pepper and nuances of game, all interwoven harmoniously with intricate detail. Medium-bodied, gently luscious and succulently sweet flavours of red fruits are entwined with an array of spices, oak and pepper, filling the mouth. The mouthfeel is supple and juicy with soft lacy acidity enlivening the fruit and very fine-grained tannins providing a silky line. The wine carries through to a long, sustained finish with a ‘peacock’s tail’ of aromatic floral and spice nuances. This is a beautifully silky Syrah with an array of red fruit and spicy flavours. Serve with coq au vin, casseroles and slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 400 dozen made. 18.5/20 Jul 2014 RRP $28.50
