Georges Road ‘Block One’ Waipara Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 25-Sep-2013
MS clone fruit from the ‘Georges Road’ vineyard, destemmed, given an ambient soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.9% alc., the wine spending 33 days on skins and aged 10 months in 1, 2 and 3 y.o. French oak barrels. Full, moderately deep ruby-red colour, lighter on edge. The nose is fresh and fragrant in the cooler spectrum, with red berry fruit aromas along with a herbal lift and a melange of stalk, white pepper, earth and oak nuances. Medium-bodied and quite elegant, this has a core of bright, lively red and black fruits entwined with flavours of fresh herbs, white pepper, spices and a suggestion of bacony oak. The mouthfeel is refined and supple, with fine-grained tannins and soft acidity providing good linearity, leading the flavours to a soft, gently spicy, peppery finish. This is an elegant, supple and fine-featured, racy Syrah in the cooler spectrum. Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 5-6 years. 250 six-packs made. 17.0+/20 Sep 2013 RRP $TBA
