Georges Road ‘Block One’ Waipara Syrah 2010

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 25-Sep-2013
MS clone fruit from the ‘Georges Road’ vineyard, destemmed, given an ambient soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 13.2% alc., the wine spending 35 days on skins and aged 12 months in 2 y.o. French oak barrels. Very dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red with youthful purple hues, a little lighter on rim. This has a fresh, bright and aromatic nose with lifted dark red berry fruit and black pepper, intermixed with dark red florals, dark herbs, iron-earth and minerals. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, flavours of dark red berry fruits are laced with subtle spicing, black and white pepper elements and fresh, dark herbs. The fruit is bright, lively and juicy, enhanced by fresh acidity, and the palate supple from light extraction and fine, grainy tannins. The palate is refreshing and crisp and carries through to a fine-textured, peppery finish. This is an elegant, lively and aromatic Syrah in the cooler spectrum with spices, pepper and herb flavours. Match with charcuterie, pasta and poultry over the next 5+ years. 500 six-packs made. 17.5/20 Sep 2013 RRP $N/A
