Georges Road ‘Block One’ Waipara Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 25-Sep-2013
Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with garnet hues, lighter on rim with some bricking. The bouquet is full and voluminous with deep aromas of savoury dark red berry fruits complexed by undergrowth, spices, earth and game and some inkiness. Medium-full bodied, a solid core of spicy, ripe dark plum and berry flavours shows with richness and succulence. Complex savoury dried herb and earthy elements indicate the beginning of secondary development. The palate is supported by supple, softening tannins and enlivened by lacy, underlying acidity which carries the flavours to a long, lingering, softly textured, spicy finish. This is a rich, juicy Syrah that is coming together and developing secondary savoury flavours. Serve with Middle Eastern fare and lamb dishes over the next 5-6 years. MS clone fruit from the ‘Georges Road’ vineyard, destemmed, given an ambient soak and indigenous yeast fermented to 14.1% alc., the wine spending 30 days on skins and aged 12 months in 1 and 2 y.o. French oak barrels. 250 six-packs made. 17.5+/20 Sep 2013 RRP $N/A
