Georges Michel ‘La Reserve’ Marlborough Syrah 2009

Syrah from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 23-Mar-2012
Very dark, deep, black-hued red colour, near impenetrable, still with some purple hues. The bouquet is intense and penetrating with depth and concentration, showing distinctive, funky black fruits with white pepper, aniseed and resiny oak. Medium-full bodied, strong flavours of black fruits, dark herbs, pepper and liquorice form a complex and funky flavour profile with raspberry, herb and aniseed nuances unfolding. Firm, but fine tannins underline the palate, the acidity level noticeable, the wine finishing with moderate length. 100% Syrah fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in 50% new French oak barrels. This is an idiosyncratic, firm-textured Syrah to serve with spicy Mediterranean dishes and casseroles over the next 4-5 years. 16.0-/20 Mar 2012 RRP $30.00
