Gardo & Morris Waipara Riesling 2011

Riesling from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 14-Aug-2014
Bright, light golden-hued straw-yellow with some depth. The bouquet is softly rich and full with aromas of citrus fruits and yellow stonefruits entwined with honied botrytis notes which are well-integrated with toasty secondary development complexities. The nose is harmonious, with building intensity and depth. Medium-dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features soft and rich flavours of lime and orange marmalade fruits softly melded with honey and toasty layers. This has good depth and weight, the wine juicy and succulent with a strong and substantial, rounded core, and the wines flows along a soft, textural line to a dry, honied finish with good length. This is a softly textured medium-dry Riesling with complex secondary honey and toast flavours. Serve as an aperitif, and with mildly spicy Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit with a portion botrytised, fermented in stainless-steel to 13.0% alc. and 28 g/L RS, the wine aged with a small portion in barrel. 17.5+/20 Aug 2014 RRP $24.95
