Gardet Champagne ‘Charles Gardet Rosé de Saignée’ 2005

Sparkling Wine from France - Champagne
Review Date : 26-Sep-2011
50% Pinot Noir and 50% Pinot Meunier from Chigny-les-Roses 1er Cru, with 5 years tirage and a dosage of 8 g/L, this was disgorged early 2011. Salmon-pink with golden yellow hues to the colour, this has a rich and soft bouquet of savoury red fruits, toast and yeast, with complexing aldehyde aromas. Dry to taste, this has considerable weight and richness balanced by crisp acidity. The flavours are extremely complex with savoury red fruits, a slight sulphide note, bread and yeast extract and nutty nuances. There are mushroom and forest elements which contribute to a forward aspect. A wine with considerable interest and the ability to polarise opinion. For me lacking the freshness of youth and possessing some less-than-desirable components. For others, this will be a multi-faceted and very complex style.  Sep 2011  RRP $99.99
