Gabriel Meffre ‘Terres de Galets’ Cotes du Rhone 2011

Grenache from France - Rhone
Review Date : 20-Sep-2012
Named after the white stones, ‘galets' in Southern Rhone vineyards. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvedre by Gabriel Meffre, negociant in Gigondas since 1936. Approx. 15% aged 9 months in oak, 13.5% alc. Even ruby-red colour with slight purple hues. This has an elegant nose of mineral-infused raspberries, along with herb and earth elements alongside jammy whole-berry fruit aromas. Medium-bodied, bright, juicy, dark raspberry Grenache fruit flavours are the feature, the fruit intermixed with herb and savoury earth nuances. The palate has modest tannin extraction allied to fresh acidity, resulting in accessibility and a gently textured, but lively mouthfeel. The sweet flavours flow smoothly to a lush moderately sustained finish. This is an elegant and fresh Cotes du Rhone featuring Grenache raspberry fruit flavours. Serve with Mediterranean fare and barbecued food over the next 3-4+ years. 16.5+/20 Sep 2012 RRP $14.99
