Fromm ‘La Strada’ Marlborough Syrah 2011

Syrah from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Jul-2013
MS, Grippat a and b, 174 and 524 clone Syrah fruit from the ‘Fromm’ and ‘Clayvin’ sites, vines averaging 12 y.o., indigenous yeast co-fermented with 3% Viognier to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in 600 L puncheons and piece barrels. Very full, near impenetrable black-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has a fulsome and aromatic nose with bold black berry and spicy, black, peppery fruit lifted by dark florals and perfumes. Medium-full bodied, full and well concentrated flavours of black berries, black and white pepper show with spicy herb and floral notes. The fine-grained tannins are prominent, providing a mouthfilling structure and texture, the acidity discreet and in the background. The flavours flow effortlessly to a very long, dry finish with soft black fruit notes. This is a full and bold, black-fruited Syrah with soft-textured tannin structure. Match with venison and roasted game meat dishes over the next 5-6+ years. 18.0+/20 Jul 2013 RRP $38.95
