Fromm ‘La Strada’ Marlborough Pinot Gris 2016

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 19-Oct-2016
Bright, light straw-yellow colour with hints of gold, lighter edged. This has a tightly bound and firmly concentrated nose of yellow stonefruits and savoury honeysuckle, with nutty complexities, unveiling smoke and mineral elements. This has a funkiness of expression. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the fruit is fresh with an underlying richness, showing yellow stonefruits with honeysuckle nuances, entwined with complexing savoury and nutty elements of lees and oak. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded, revealing yellow florals, and the wine unfolds subtle phenolic textures that build to provide presence and some grip. The acidity is soft and harmonious, and the wine carries to a gently voluminous finish of stonefruits, florals and honeysuckle. This is a gently mouthfilling dryish Pinot Gris with rich stonefruit, honeysuckle and complex, savoury, nutty elements on a soft-textured, harmonious palate. Serve with mose savoury white meat dishes over the next 3+ years. Fruit from the ‘Fromm’ vineyard, two-thirds tank-fermented and one-third in 600 L barrels to 13.5% alc. and 6.5 g/L RS, 16% aged in 3 months in seasoned oak and 75% in horizontal tanks for 3 months to maximise lees contact. Certified BioGro organic. 17.5/20 Oct 2016 RRP $28.00
