Fromm ‘Fromm Vineyard’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 29-Aug-2012
Clones 115, 113, 114, 667, 777 and Abel with a small amount of 5, 6, 10/5 and 2/10 from vines 20 y.o. on average from the ‘Fromm' vineyard, Wairau Valley, destemmed and wild yeast fermented with some whole berries to 13.5% alc. The wine spent 3-4 weeks on skins and 14-16 months in up to 15% new French oak. Dark ruby-red colour with some purple hues, lighter on edge. This has an elegant and refined nose, somewhat reserved and tightly bound, revealing ripe dark berry and raspberry essence aromas along with complex nuances of graphite, minerals and iron. Medium-bodied, this is an elegantly sized wine with a subtle underlying power, drive and cut. Vibrant dark berry fruits are infused with earthy, mineral and iron-like nuances, and fresh, lacy acidity provides excellent tension. The fruit depth and intensity is supported by very fine-grained, firm tannins which carry through to a very long and sustained finish with flavours of raspberry essence and minerals. This fine-grained, seriously constructed Pinot Noir shows minerality. It will develop with elegance over the next 10 years. 100 dozen made. 19.0-/20 Aug 2012 RRP $70.00
