Fromm ‘Clayvin Vineyard’ Marlborough Pinot Noir 2014

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 26-Jul-2016
Predominantly clone 115, with 667, 777, Abel and 6, from the ‘Clayvin’ vineyard, Brancott Valley, vines 18-20 y.o., destemmed and indigenous yeast fermented with 75% whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 3-4 weeks on skins and aged 16 months in approx. 10% new barriques. Certified BioGro organic. Even, dark ruby-red colour with lighter purple hues on the rim. This has a full, gentle and ethereal nose of soft red berry fruits, red cherries and red and violet floral layers, along with liquorice and spice detail that seamlessly unfolds adding interest and detail. This is beautifully refined and subtle in expression. Medium-bodied, the palate is very elegant in expression with refined and tightly bound flavours of dark red cherry and berry fruit, along with liquorice, soft red florals and spices. The fruit is supported by flowery, fine-grained tannins that grow to provide considerable extraction and structure. Integrated acidity lends a soft flow and energy, and the wine runs smoothly to an integrated, fine-textured, linear finish of cherries, liquorice, spices and minerals. This is an elegant, refined and complex detailed Pinot Noir with considerable fine-grained tannins and structure and excellent linearity. Match with duck and pork dishes over the next 5-6 years. 175 dozen made. 18.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $80.65
