Frizzell Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Aug-2012
Very dark, deep, blck-red colour with light purple hues on rim. The nose is soft with full, ripe aromas of black plum and boysenberry fruit, and subtle oaking, all expressed with gentle harmony. Medium-full bodied, this is tightly bound with concentrated flavours of black plums, boysenberries and redcurrants, a little shy at present. The palate has good presence and volume, being smooth and supple with soft tannins. Some acid liveliness is noticeable, adding to the succulence of the fruit, and the wine finishes with seamless sweetness and spice notes, Smooth and supple, the fruit is a little reserved at present, but this will develop and blossom over the next 3-5 years. A blend of Merlot and Malbec, all Hawke's Bay fruit, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in French and American oak barriques. 4,100 bottles produced. 17.0/20 Aug 2012 RRP $23.95
