Frizzell Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Sep-2011
A blend of Merlot and Malbec fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in French and American oak barriques. Dark ruby-red colour with purple hues on the edge. The bouquet is elegantly proportioned, but with intense, concentrated and penetrating aromas of spicy, ripe black plum fruits, liquorice and oak cedar, still quite tightly bound. Medium full-bodied, the palate is tight and concentrated with a tight amalgam of dark plums, spicy berry fruits and cedar underscored by fine-grained, firm tannins. The acidity is balanced adding a brightness to the fruit. The palate has a good core and line through to an attractive, liquorice nuanced, dry finish. Serve with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean lamb and beef dishes over the next 4-6+ years. 340 cases made. 17.5+/20 Sep 2011 RRP $23.95
