Hand-picked Central Otago fruit, fully destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented with a high proportion of whole berries to 13.5% alc., the wine aged in oak and bottled in spring. Moderately deep ruby-red colour with some purple hues on edge. This has a deeply penetrating, fresh and bright-fruited bouquet of dark cherry-berry aromas along with dark plums laced with spicy oak, pepper and a little earthy reduction. Medium-bodied, soft and plump flavours of dark berry fruits, spicy plums and lifted peppery elements show with richness and juiciness. Soft and rounded, gently extracted tannins provide an accessible and smooth textured palate. The flavours flow easily, leading to a soft, light, spicy finish. This plump, soft, spicy flavoured Pinot Noir will be a match with pasta, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3-4+ years. 6,800 bottles made. Bright, even, purple-hued ruby-red, lighter on rim and youthful in colour, the bouquet has soft, primary fruit aromas of raspberries and red liquorice with florals and confectionary notes, the nose showing good concentration and depth at the core. Medium-bodied, this is up-front with solid and juicy flavours of raspberries and redcurrant jam, lifted with dark red florals and esters. The extraction is modest, but provides a firm graininess to the mouthfeel, and this is balanced by good acidity adding briskness. This is an uncomplicated, fruity and lively wine to add interest to pizza, pasta and barbecued food over the next 3-4 years. 16.5-/20 Nov 2011 RRP $23.95
