Frizzell Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009 3rd Bottling

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 12-Jul-2011
Fruit from Central Otago, 100% destemmed and fermented with a high proportion of whole berries after a cold soak to 14.0% alc. after which the wine was aged in oak barrels. Deepish ruby-red with light purple hues, this is youthful in appearance. The nose is tight and concentrated with aromas dark red berry fruits along with oak spices, cedar and earthy notes, soft and a little restrained in expression. Medium-full bodied, this has attractively soft and mellow soft red berry fruit, spicy plum and cedary oak flavours on the palate underlined by racy acidity. Supple, grainy tannins contribute to the body and mouthfilling presence, the wine showing nuances of exotic spices on the finish. Still tightly bound, this spicy and lively Pinot Noir will drink well with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 4-5+ years. 17.5/20 Jul 2011 RRP $23.95
