Frescobaldi ‘Tenuta Frescobaldi di Castiglioni’ Toscana IGT 2011

Cabernet Sauvignon from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 03-Apr-2014
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% each Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese, vines 12 y.o. on average, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine matured 12 months in barriques. Full, dark, near saturated black-red colour. The bouquet is full, solid and deeply packed with aromas of ripe, savoury blackcurrants, olives and plums with layers of earth and game nuances and some seasoned wood elements. Medium-full bodied, soft and plush, but densely concentrated flavours of savoury blackcurrant, plum and dark cherry fruits are encased by soft, grainy tannins. This is well-structured, but rounded and supple, with soft acidity underlining the flow. The extraction builds to carry the palate to a textured dry finish with acid tension. This is a fulsome, well-packed Tuscan red with plush, savoury blackcurranty fruit and grainy grip. Match with slow-cooked red meat dishes over the next 4+ years. 17.5+/20 Apr 2014 RRP $39.50
