Frescobaldi ‘Nipozzano’ Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG 2010

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 03-Apr-2014
Very dark, deep, black-red colour with a little garnet edge. The nose is elegant and fruit-focussed with aromas of ripe, dark berry and sour cherry fruit, along with subtle red florals, dark herbs and mineral nuances harmoniously entwined. Medium-bodied and elegantly proportioned, the fruit flavours are restrained with light dark red cherry and berry fruit showing some sweetness through the palate. The fruit is supported by fine, powdery tannins countering the fruit to provide a refined, dry mouthfeel. Background acidity underlines the palate flow, guiding the flavours to a dry, fine-textured finish. This is a medium-bodied Chianti with restrained Sangiovese fruit and a fine-grained, dry mouthfeel. Serve with pasta, roasted red meats and hard cheeses over the next 4-5+ years. 90% Sangiovese with 10% other reds, from the ‘Nipozzano’ estate, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 24 months in seasoned barriques. 17.5/20 Apr 2014 RRP $38.50
