Frescobaldi ‘Castiglioni’ Chianti DOCG 2012

Sangiovese from Italy - Tuscany
Review Date : 03-Apr-2014
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red with purple hues, lighter on rim. This has a moderately full bouquet of fresh and bright sour dark cherry fruit lifted by red florals with some whole berry fermentation confectionary notes. Medium-bodied, light, clean, fresh and up-front flavours of bitter red cherry fruit are intermixed with red florals and fruit pastille notes. The mouthfeel is smooth and supple, the flavours flowing easily along a light grainy line. The acidity is soft, adding to the accessibility of the palate, and the flavours flow to a light, dry finish. This is a contemporary, up-front and gentle aromatic Chianti. Serve with antipasto, pizza, pasta and poultry over the next 3+ years. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot from the ‘Castiglioni’ estate fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine on skins 11 days and matured 6 months in tank with micoxygenation. 17.0/20 Apr 2014 RRP $26.00
