Framingham Marlborough Montepulciano 2011

Montepulciano from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 09-Jun-2015
Full, dark ruby-red colour with slight garnet hires on rim. This has a well-packed bouquet of lifted and savoury dark red berry fruits entwined with dark herbal and earthy complexities and secondary game elements. The cedary oak grows with time in the glass. Medium-bodied and elegantly presented, flavours of savoury red berry fruits, dark herbs, earth and cedary oak form a well-concentrated heart and a positive mouthfeel. This is up-front and has a lifted presence. Dry, fine-grained tannins support the fruit, and gentle, mouthwatering acidity carries the wine to a slender, but lingering finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, savoury fruited Montepulciano with dry textures and lively acid. Match with Mediterranean fare and barbecued red meats over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Kaituna’ vineyard on the north bank of the Wairau River, destemmed, given a cold soak and fermented to 12.5% alc., the wine aged 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques. 16.5+/20 Jun 2015 RRP $30.00
