Framingham Marlborough Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 25-Mar-2014
Clones 15, 95 and Mendoza from the Wairau Valley, approx. 60% hand-picked, WBP and this portion barrel-fermented, to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 7 months in 10% new French oak barriques, the wine undergoing batonnage and 40% MLF. Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The bouquet is fresh and light with aromas of white stonefruits along with a little flinty lees work and minerally interest, the aromatics still tightly bound and growing in intensity in the glass. Dry and medium-full bodied, tight and elegantly penetrating flavours of citrus and stonefruits show a degree of sweetness and lusciousness, balanced by crisp and refreshing acidity. The fruit richness combines with some alcohol power driving the palate along a slightly grain-textured line. Flinty and mineral nuances unfold, adding layers of detail to the citrussy fruit, and the flavours lead to a lively, long, dry finish. This is a youthfully tight Chardonnay with some fruit sweetness and good grip and drive. Match with seafood and creamy poultry dishes over the next 4+ years. 17.5/20 Mar 2014 RRP $25.00
