Framingham ‘F-Series’ Marlborough Viognier 2015

Viognier from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 14-Dec-2015
Moderately deep, light golden-hued yellow colour, pale on rim. The nose is full, bold and broad with aromas of ripe apricots and savoury yellow stonefruits, lifted by exotic florals and a touch of volatility, unfolding layers of creamy barrel-ferment melded with honey and musk. The aromatics grow in richness and unveil nutty and ginger detail with aeration. Dry to taste and full-bodied, rich and rounded flavours of ripe apricots and savoury, nutty, apricot kernels are entwined with yellow florals, wild honey and savoury musk. The mouthfeel is fulsome with fine phenolic textures and structure, and soft, integrated acidity. The palate has barrel-ferment creamy textures underlined by some alcoholic power and warmth. The power provides drive, carrying the flavours of apricots and savoury nuts and musk to a strong, lingering finish. This is a fulsome, ripe Viognier with exotic, savoury apricot flavours and creamy layers, the palate driven by the alcoholic power. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine over the next 3-4 years. Estate fruit from vines established in 2006 and 2007, given 24 hours skin contact and fermented in seasoned French oak to 14.5% alc. and dryness, the wine aged 6 months on gross lees, with approx. 70% undergoing MLF. 44 dozen made. 18.0/20 Dec 2015 RRP $35.00
