Forrest Marlborough Malbec 2014

Malbec from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 04-Apr-2016
Ruby-red colour with some depth, lighter on the rim with pale purple hues. The nose is slender in presentation with soft aromas of savoury red cherry and spicy red berry fruits entwined with nutty and resinous oak elements, dried herb and peppery nuances and earthy suggestions. Medium-bodied and elegant in proportion, the palate has moderately deep flavours of savoury and spicy red cherry and berry fruit intermixed with earth, herb and nutty oak notes. The wine follows a light, grainy-textured line with underlying acid energy carrying the palate to a lively finish. This is a slender Malbec with spicy and savoury red cherry and berry fruit and herbal and earthy detail. Match with pasta, pizza and tapas over the next 3+ years. Wairau River valley fruit fermented with 30% whole berries to 11.7% alc., the wine aged in 4.000 L oak cuves, given new wood contact and undergoing micro-oxygenation. 16.0/20 Apr 2016 RRP $23.00
