Flying Sheep Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Aug-2013
Dark, deep, black-hued garnet-red colour with some bricking on rim. The nose is soft and fine with building aromas of ripe, earthy, dark plum fruit along with subtle iron and tar elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate has a dense core of rich and luscious red plum and berry flavours. Earthy nuances intermingle with tar notes, adding detail and savoury interest. The mouthfeel is soft and rounded with supple tannins in support, and lead to a full, dry finish with cedary oak notes. This is a soft-textured Merlot-based wine with good density of plum and earthy flavours. Serve with roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4-5 years. A blend of 69.5% Merlot and 30.5% Merlot fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in 30% new French oak barriques. 17.5-/20 Aug 2013 RRP $30.00
