Fancrest Estate Waipara Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Canterbury & Waipara
Review Date : 08-Oct-2012
The fifth crop from the ‘Fancrest' vineyard fully destemmed, with 50% whole berries, indigenous yeast fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 13 months in a range of barrel sizes, 50% Dom. Laurent ‘Magic' casks and 15% new. Moderately dark ruby-red colour with some purple hues, lighter on edge. The bouquet is fine and firm with intense black cherry and dark plum aromas interwoven with herbs, spices and minerals. Medium-bodied, tightly bound and intense flavours of spicy black cherries, plums and liquorice are framed within very fine-grained tannins. The palate is near-velvety with a refined, textured mouthfeel, providing an elegant line. Soft acidity enhances the sweetness of the fruit, and a little spicy oak and violetty lift shows on a long, lingering and dry finish. This is an elegantly concentrated and finely textured Pinot Noir with spicy black fruit flavours. Serve with duck and pork over the next 5-6 years. Certified BioGro organic. 18.0/20 Oct 2012 RRP $39.00
