Fruit from the company’s Wairau and Awatere vineyards, partially indigenous yeast fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in approx. 5% new French oak barrels. Light ruby-red colour with some depth, pale on the rim. The nose is light with fresh and moderately concentrated aromas of dark red cherry and raspberry fruit harmoniously entwined with subtle, dark herbal notes and lifted by red florals. Medium-full bodied and elegantly proportioned, this has a fine core of dark red cherry and raspberry fruit, along with herbal detail. The fruit has sweetness which is enhanced by some underlying alcoholic power and drive. The palate is balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction and integrated, soft acidity, lending a rounded mouthfeel, and the wine leads to a mellow finish with complexing reductive mineral nuances. This is an elegantly proportioned, dark cherry and raspberry fruited Pinot Noir with soft mouthfeel and some alcoholic drive.
