Falconhead Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Aug-2014
Very dark, deep, black-hued purple-red colour, lighter on rim, youthful in appearance. This has an elegant, fruit-focussed nose with aromas of fragrant black berries intermingling with spices, black pepper and lifted red and black florals. Medium-bodied, moderately rich and sweet flavours of spicy red and black fruits feature on the palate. The fruit and tannin are gently extracted, providing a soft and supple mouthfeel, with balanced acid liveliness. Liquorice, dark red florals and chocolate nuances unfold, and follow a light tannin line to a soft, plummy finish. This is an attractively plush and juicy black-fruited Syrah with spiciness and light tannin extraction. Match with pasta, pizza, and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3 years. Fruit from the ‘Tantallon’ vineyard in the Bridge Pa district, fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in new and seasoned French oak barriques. 16.5+/20 Aug 2014 RRP $15.99
