Falconhead Hawke’s Bay Gewurztraminer 2013

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 12-Oct-2015
Fruit predominantly from the ‘Campbells’ vineyard, Bridge Pa, with fruit from the ‘Kinross’ vineyard, Crownthorpe, given 12 hours skin contact, and indigenous yeast fermented in stainless-steel to 12.5% alc. and 20 g/L RS. Brilliant straw-yellow colour with lemon-gold hues, paler on the rim. The nose is fresh and firmly concentrated with deep aromas of rose-petal florals melded with root-ginger, musk, spices, herbs and apricots, along with nuances of creaming soda. Medium-dry to medium in taste, the palate features gently rich and luscious flavours of rose-petals, exotic florals, musk and honied apricots. The mouthfeel is rounded and soft-textured, but underlined by lacy acidity lending good freshness and liveliness. The wine flows with drive, the flavours receding a little, leading to a long, lingering dry, spicy finish. This is a rich and moderately luscious, lively, medium-dry Gewurztraminer with upfront exotic floral and fruit flavours. Match with Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 3-4 years. 17.5+/20 Oct 2015 RRP $12.99
