Falconhead Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-Aug-2014
Fruit from the ‘Riverview’, ‘Kinross’ and ‘Tantallon’ vineyards vinified at the ‘Riverview’ winery. Fermentation to 13.0% alc., 35% in barrel with 12 months aging, a small portion undergoing MLF. Bright, full straw-yellow colour with hints of gold, lighter on rim. The nose is full and up-front with aromas of ripe, savoury yellow stonefruits along with tropical fruits and apricots, entwined with soft oak and light butterscotch MLF nuances. Dryish to taste and medium-bodied, up-front ripe yellow stonefruit and sweet apricot flavours are melded with nuts, toast and butter. The mouthfeel is open and broad, quite rounded, with balanced acidity and energy. As the wine flows, drying phenolics emerge and carry the palate to a light, nutty finish. This is an up-front and open Chardonnay with moderately rich stonefruit flavours and a dry, nutty finish. Match with most white meat dishes over the next 3 years. 17.0-/20 Aug 2014 RRP $15.99
