The alluvial and clay gravel soiled hillside ‘Skyedale' vineyard in the Wairau Valley has provided the fruit for this wine. Cool-fermented in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc. Very pale straw-yellow colour with some green hues. This has a very tightly bound, very intense and stunningly concentrated bouquet displaying essence of capsicums, gooseberries, wild herbs and minerals. This needs time to unfold and blossom. Dry to taste, the flavours show great depth, intensity and concentration, dense gooseberry and herbs underlined by bracing acidity. The wine has slippery textures, the fineness providing tightness and proportion to the power. A long, sustained finish of fruit is carried by the crisp, mouth-watering acidity. This is concentrated essence of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and should develop over the next 4-5+ years. Serve with seafood, poultry and creamy cheeses. 19.0/20 Jul 2011 RRP $35.00
