Eureka Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2013

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 07-Jul-2014
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with hints of lemon-gold, pale edged. The nose is elegant and finely concentrated with inviting and lifted aromas of rose-petal florals with an amalgam of musk, herbs and ginger, entwined with exotic Turkish Delight confectionary and honey. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, tightly bound, elegantly presented flavours of creaming soda, Turkish Delight and ginger form a gently unctuous and oily-textured palate. The flavours flow smoothly with good, lacy, slippery acid underlining the fruit. The phenolics are fine, but grow to carry the palate to a slightly bitter, dry finish. This is an elegant, smooth and oily-textured, exotic dry Gewurztraminer with a finish showing some varietal bitterness. Match with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4 years. Fruit from the Riverlands and Hawkesbury Road districts, fully barrel-fermented in seasoned French and American oak to 13.2% alc. and 6 g/L RS, the wine undergoing batonnage. 220 dozen made. 18.0/20 Jul 2014 RRP $25.00
