Eureka Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 24-Aug-2012
Brilliant light-golden yellow colour, pale on rim. This has an intensely rich, densely concentrated but opulent bouquet of exotic stonefruits, spices and ginger and some lifted rose-petal notes, which are enhanced by a fresh, steeliness. Dry to taste and full-bodied, rich, concentrated and intense flavours of ripe yellow stonefruits, ginger and spice form a deep and firmly packed core. Though opulent and bold, there is fresh acidity and an underlying liveliness, supported by the alcoholic power that balances the unctuousness and rounded textures. The palate has very good drive, which carries to a long, firm finish with hints of bitter caramel. This is a powerful, sturdy and driven Gewurztraminer with bold spice and ginger flavours. Match with hearty Mediterranean cuisine over the next 4-5 years. Gewurztraminer from the lower Wairau Valley, fermented, partially by indigenous yeasts, with 15% in acacia wood barrels to 14.5% alc. and 7 g/L rs. The wine was aged further in acacia wood. 114 cases made. 18.0/20 Aug 2012 RRP $25.00
