Esk Valley ‘Winemakers Reserve’ Gimblett Gravels Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet 2011

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 26-Nov-2013
40% Merlot, 34% Malbec and 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 50% new French oak. Full, impenetrable and saturated black red colour. The bouquet is full and voluminous, quite complete with beautifully integrated, ripe black fruits, plums and spices, with underling power at the core. This promises much more. Full-bodied and flavoursome, the palate features rich, succulent black fruits with a dense core incorporating iron and earth, with exotic oak spicing. The fruit is framed by very fine-grained, powdery tannins which carry the flavours to a grainy-textured, cedar-lifted, very long lingering finish. This is a very rich-fruited and fine-structured Merlot-based wine that will develop over the next 10 years. 19.5-/20 Nov 2013 RRP $59.99
