Esk Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-Jan-2014
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with some purple on rim. The bouquet is soft, full and fragrant with ethereal aromas of soft red berry fruits along with a subtle floral and herbal underlay, revealing ripe raspberry liqueur, liquorice and savoury undergrowth nuances in the glass. Medium-bodied, soft and gentle, sweet raspberry and strawberry fruit flavours are intermixed with herb and liquorice elements. The tannins are fine-grained and the acidity is gentle, providing a soft flowing mouthfeel and line. The alcohol emerges and drives the palate to a light, dry finish. This is a soft, gentle, raspberry and herb fruited Pinot Noir with fine tannins. Match with salmon and tuna, pasta and poultry over the next 4 years. Hand-picked fruit from the Awatere Valley and Southern Hills, destemmed, given a soak and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine was aged 11 months in French oak barriques. 17.5+/20 Jan 2014 RRP $25.00
