Esk Valley Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2013

Syrah from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 06-Oct-2015
100% Syrah from Hawke’s Bay fermented partially with indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine spending 3 weeks on skins post ferment aged 17 months in 15% new French oak, a mix of barriques and 600 L demi muids. Very dark, black-hued purple-red colour with light ruby on the rim. The nose is full, soft and open with ripe black and dark-red berry fruit aromas lifted by soft, dark red florals and entwined with complexing spice, savoury earth, herb and game nuances, all harmoniously interwoven. Medium-full bodied, soft and gently rich, mouthfilling flavours of sweet, dark red and black berry fruits intermingle with red florals, earth, spice and peppery notes. Oaking is subtle and well-integrated. The mouthfeel is balanced with soft, supple, fine-grained tannins, and openly accessible, flowing smoothly and effortlessly. The wine carries gently to a full, ethereal finish of black and red florals and berry fruit notes. This is a gently rich, accessible Syrah with harmonious flavours of black and red fruits, earth and spices, and supple mouthfeel. Match with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean red meat dishes over the next 6+ years. 18.5-/20 Oct 2015 RRP $24.99
