Esk Valley Hawke’s Bay Chenin Blanc 2011

Chenin Blanc from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 28-Jan-2014
Bright, even straw-yellow colour, lighter on rim. This has an elegant and tightly bound bouquet, refined and slender in presentation, showing white stonefruits and florals with waxy mineral notes that build in depth in the glass. Dryish to taste and elegantly proportioned, crisp, fresh and subtle fruit flavours of white stonefruits, nuts and florals form a fine, penetrating line with lacy acidity providing liveliness, tension and cut. The mouthfeel is racy and brisk and beginning to round out and soften, revealing a fine phenolic thread with alcoholic power. Some richness emerges, and the sweetness is balanced by the acidity, which carries the palate to a clean, tight and crisp finish. This is an elegant and refreshing dry Chenin Blanc with white stonefruit flavours, beginning to soften. Match with seafood and poultry over the next 4-5 years. Fruit from the organically managed inland ‘Moteo Terraces’ vineyard, mainly tank fermented with 15% indigenous yeast fermented in seasoned barriques and demi-muids to 13.4% alc. and 5.6 g/L RS, the wine aged on lees. 18.0/20 Jan 2014 RRP $20.00
