Bright straw-yellow colour with green-gold hues, lighter on edge. The nose is firmly concentrated and elegantly proportioned with aromas of ripe citrus fruit and yellow stonefruits melded with complexing flinty lees and reductive notes, unfolding layers of nutty and spicy oak and toasty nuances. This is fresh and has good depth. Medium-full bodied, the palate is rich and lush with lively citrus and stonefruit flavours harmoniously entwined with gunflint, nutty and toasty complexing detail. The palate is open and accessible with a suggestion of barrel-ferment creaminess, and the fruit sweetness enhanced and enlivened by lacy acidity. A soft and subtle, textured line guides the palate to a light, but lingering finish of citrus fruits and nuts. This is a well-balanced, fresh and rich Chardonnay with citrus fruit flavours complexed by flinty notes. Match with poultry, pork and veal over the next 4+ years. Fruit from the ‘Howard’ vineyard, Bayview and from Puketapu in the Dartmoor Valley, partially indigenous yeast fermented, 70% in barrels and 30% in stainless-steel to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 15% new French oak, undergoing batonnage and 50% MLF. 18.0/20 Oct 2015 RRP $19.99
