Esk Valley Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Dec-2014
Bright, light golden-hued yellow colour, lighter on edge. This has a full, soft and harmoniously integrated bouquet of yellow stonefruits that open to show citrus fruits with nutty oak and lemon-curd and butterscotch MLF elements. The aromas are up-front and expressed with a degree of restraint and style. Medium-full bodied, the palate has full and gently mouthfilling, open flavours of yellow stonefruits and grapefruit intermixed with butterscotch and lemon-curd MLF notes. Subtle nutty and toasty oak detail add interest. The wine is still youthful with some grainy textures that provide plenty of palate presence and a dry, robust mouthfeel that carries to a full and open finish with stonefruit and nutty flavours. This is a full, open and flavoursome Chardonnay with some dry texture and structure that will enable aging for 4-5 years. Serve with poultry, pork and veal. Fruit from Bay View, Puketapu and Marekakaho, 84% barrel-fermented, partly by indigenous yeasts to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 9 months in barrel on lees with some batonnage and 25% undergoing MLF. 18.0-/20 Dec 2014 RRP $19.95
