Escudo Rojo ‘Baron Philippe de Rothschild’ Syrah 2014

Syrah from Chile
Review Date : 02-Nov-2016
Very dark, saturated black-hued red colour, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is solid and dense with firmly concentrated aromas of ripe black-berried fruits entwined with dark herbs, black pepper, and nuances of green olives and hint of funky game. Full-bodied, the palate features rich, ripe, black-berried fruits with notes of earth, spice and black pepper. The fruit is supported by fine-grained, supple tannin extraction and the wine ha fine, lacy acidity enlivening the mouthfeel. Rich herb and olive detail unfolds and carry to a long, rounded finish with a concentrated core. This is a rich, ripe, black-berried Syrah with earth, spice and pepper flavours along with herb notes on a supple, structured, lively palate. Match with slow-cooked game meat dishes over the next 5+ years. Fruit from the Valle de Maipo, hand-picked and fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 6-8 months in 1 y.o. oak barrels. 18.0-/20 Nov 2016 RRP $22.45
