Escudo Rojo ‘Baron Philippe de Rothschild’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile
Review Date : 02-Nov-2016
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter edged. This has a firmly concentrated and elegantly proportioned nose of ripe blackcurrant fruit with cassis liqueur and subtle notes of mint and fresh herbs. The aromatics show a stylish restraint. Medium-full bodied, the palate possesses a soft-textured core with good depth of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit along with blackcurrant leaf and nuances of fresh herbs and mint. The fruit sweetness builds in richness and density, but is balanced by fine-grained powdery tannin extraction. The acidity is softly ripe and integrated, and the flavours lead to a soft, lingering finish. This is a rounded and softly concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon with blackberry and blackcurrant fruit with leafy and herbal notes on a fine, grainy-structured palate. Match with herb-marinated lamb and beef dishes over the next 5-6 years. Fruit from the Valle de Maipo, hand-picked and fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 6-8 months in 1 y.o. oak barrels. 17.5/20 Nov 2016 RRP $22.45
