Escarpment Kiwa Pinot Noir 2021, Martinborough

Pinot Noir from New Zealand - Wairarapa & Wellington
Review Date : 18-Jul-2023
Deep ruby-black, slightly lighter on the rim. This has a lifted and bright bouquet, with aromas of floral fragrance, cherry, red berry, herbs and fine spice. Medium-full bodied, scents of cherry and red berry enriched by black pepper, nutmeg, dark herbs, hibiscus, and floral linger. The tannin is silky and fine-textured, providing a fine framework and herbaceous details. Lacy and enticing acidity persist to a lengthy, fragranced, elegant finish. This Pinot Noir shows good energy; floral details push through a tightly-bounded tannin framework and a sleek finish. Match with roasted duck and rack of lamb over the next 10 years. Fruit from one of the oldest blocks on Martinborough Terrace fermented with 43% whole bunches and aged 20 months in French oak barriques, 35% new oak, unfined, unfiltered. 19+/20 pts (96 pts) July 2023 RRP $85
