Envoy Marlborough Pinot Gris 2010

Pinot Gris from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-Dec-2011
Brilliant, even straw-yellow colour with some golden hues, pale on rim, the bouquet is fresh with yellow stonefruits, honied pears, spices, herbs and flinty minerals, expressed with a steeliness. Off-dry to medium in sweetness, this possesses real presence and weight, with a near unctuousness and roundness to the mouthfeel. Subtle flavours of stonefruits and pears, cut with a mineral and steely edge are enlivened by good acid balance. The palate builds in richness with attractive honey and ripe stonefruit notes, but finishes with dry, subtle textures and restraint. From original plantings, from ‘C Block' of ‘Johnson Estate', fermented in large oak to 14.0% alc. and 31 g/L rs, the wine aged on lees 7 months. A rich and weighty Pinot Gris that has a steely cut and balance. Serve with Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine over the next 3-4+ years. 18.5-/20 Dec 2011 RRP $29.95
