Envoy Marlborough Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Marlborough
Review Date : 28-Dec-2011
Old Colmar clone fruit from the ‘G Block' of ‘Johnson Estate', picked earlier than other Gewurztraminer blocks, with botrytis infection, fermented to 14.5% alc. and 38 g/L rs. Bright, light straw-yellow colour with pale golden hues, light on edge. This has a very fine, tight, elegant, but intense nose of exotic florals, musk and ginger with talc and honey notes forming a deep core, but unfolding in waves of aromas. Medium in sweetness, this is still tight and restrained, with a rich, lush and concentrated core of musk, ginger, Turkish Delight and exotic tropical fruit flavours. The palate exudes power and depth, with a warmth, but there is no excessive alcohol heat. Fine textured and smooth, the palate has drive and excellent length, the finish blossoming with a complex amalgam of rich musky fruits, spices and honey. This is a rich, weighty and complex Gewurztraminer that will become fulsome over the next 4-5 years. Match with pate, foie gras, ham and rich cheeses. 950 bottles made. 18.5+/20 Dec 2011 RRP $29.95
