Ellero Central Otago Gewurztraminer 2011

Gewurztraminer from New Zealand - Otago

☆☆☆☆☆
Fruit from the ‘Terra Sancta' vineyard, Bannockburn, 80% fermented and aged 5 months on lees in a neutral 500 L puncheon to 14.3% alc. and 6 g/L rs. Bright, even, pale straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. The bouquet is very elegant and fine in presentation, with tightly bound, delicate aromas of rose-petal florals and steely, mineral elements. Off-dry to taste, clear flavours of rose-petals, yellow stonefruits, subtle spices and honeysuckle show with good weight and an elegant richness, the mouthfeel smooth and near unctuous. There is considerable drive from the alcohol which is a feature on the palate, and the wine flows crisply to a taut, dry and sustained finish with typical slightly bitter varietal notes. This is fresh, tight and crisply defined Gewurztraminer with some richness, weight and alcoholic drive. Serve with Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4+ years. 62 cases made. 16.5+/20 Oct 2012 RRP $27.00
