Elephant Hill Hieronymus 2020, Hawke’s Bay

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 09-Oct-2023
Full, deep ruby-red, lighter on edge. The nose is attractive and harmonious, packed with bright cherry, cassis, plum, violet, cigar, minerals and an amalgam of spice. Full-bodied, elegant and rich, red cherry, cassis and black plum aromas entwined with violet, cigar, clove, star anise and stony minerals. The mouthfeel is velvety with fine-grained tannins, unfolding a rich mineral palate. The concentrated fruit is vibrant with lively acidity and has a long, lengthy finish. This flagship red blend is powerful, rich, full of details, broadness and length. Match with Tomahawk and braised short ribs over the next 15 years. Fruit from 100% Stone vineyard in Gimblett Gravels, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon clone 10, 38% Merlot clone 181, and 23% Cabernet Franc clone 326, fermented to 14.5% alc, natural spring MLF. Aged 24 months in barrels 54% new oak, further 4 months in tanks on light lees. 251 cases produced. 19.5/20 pts (97 pts) Oct 2023 RRP $125
