Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2013

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 05-May-2014
Hawke’s Bay fruit hand-picked , WBP and fermented in tank and oak puncheons to 14.0% alc. and drynesss, the wine aged 6 months on lees. Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with green hues, light on rim. The nose is fine and penetrating with exotic aromas of orange zest, apricots and floral detail, tightly bound with a refreshing and youthful steeliness. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the flavours of citrus zest and florals are immediate and up-front, but also tightly concentrated at the core. The palate is elegant and flows smoothly with slippery, near-unctuous textures, guided by a very fine phenolic line. Some alcohol power is noticeable, providing cut, and drives the flavours to a very long, lingering concentrated finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, exotic Viognier with a rich mouthfeel and alcoholic drive. Match with Chinese cuisine and Mediterranean fare over the next 4 years. 18.0-/20 May 2014 RRP $29.00
